TerraTerm is an excellent (and free) termainal emulator and telnet client that has all of the features of HyperTerminal plus the added benefits of plug-ins, such as this SSH plug-in. The TerraTerm home page is located here http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html
I had no problem getting the JOE test editor to display properly. I used the VT100 (default) terminal emulation and an 80 cols x 24 rows screen size (default). 95 x 30 may also work; some people have reported that 80x25 fixes their JOE problems.
