HyperTerminal

Up one level to the telnet parent page.

Using HyperTerminal:

HyperTerminal is a program included with all 32-bit versions of Windows. It lets you connect to other computers, Internet telnet sites, and host computers using either your modem, a null modem cable, or a network connection. To connect to your Tivo, start HyperTerminal and a window entitled "Connection Description" will pop-up. Type "Tivo Telnet" or similar and hit OK.

Hyperterminal assumes you will be making a dial-up connection when it is first started. Fill-in the boxes as shown below.

If you are connecting over a network, go to the "connect using:" drop-down box in the "Connect to" window and select "TCP/IP Winsock". In host address, type in the IP address of your Tivo (example: 192.168.1.200). If you are connecting via a serial cable, instead select the COM port that connects your PC to your Tivo in the "connect using" dialog box.

File Transfer

To send a file FROM your Tivo to your PC, type sz filename.ext at the command prompt. This will send the file from the Tivo using the Zmodem protocol (refer to the Transfer menu to configure the default download location). A window will pop up asking where to save the file on you PC.

To send a file TO your Tivo, first type rz so that tivo is ready to receive and then and then use the Transfer menu and click Send File. The image below shows the Joe text editor open and the send file menu highlighted. (Please note, you should not be running Joe when sending a file.)

For other commands that can be used via telnet, refer to the command section.

Type exit to exit the telnet session.
