FTP lets you copy files to your Tivo from your PC. The Tivo FTP Server software must first be installed and running on your networked Tivo. As of 4-June-2002, the latest version the Tivo FTP Server offers only the most basic support. It does not allow you to create directories or change file permissions. It will work only with basic FTP clients that strictly adhear to the UNIX FTP format. Most any UNIX- or LINUX-based FTP client will work. However many Windows FTP clients will not work.

Some Windows-based FTP clients DO NOT work because they try to open multiple connections to transfer files. In some applications, this feature can be disabled by going into the "Options" menu and setting "Additional Connections for Transfers" to 0. This should fix the delay. Some program that cause this "slow transfer" problem with their default setting are:
