Telnet: Telnet connects to your networked Tivo though a command prompt interface. Useful for creating directories, moving files, starting programs, and editing the startup script. To make telnet easier to use, you must install some basic command software installed on Tivo to let you perform directory listings and other commands.
FTP Client: An FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Client is used to tansfer files from your desktop PC to your Tivo. Your tivo must be running the Tivo FTP Server software.
WinZip This section explains how to configure WinZip so that you can properly decompress TAR and GZ files. These are the file formats used for Tivo software downlaoded from the internet.
Text Editors This section lists text editors that run on Windows that preserve the Unix file format required by Tivo. Text editors such a WordPad or NotePad remove the carriage return characters used by Unix.
